Description

Contax is a light-curing, self-etching, and self-conditioning adhesive system for dentine and enamel. The Contax adhesive system can be used with and is compatible with light-, dual- and self-curing composites, compomers and ormocers. If the restoration is not light-cured in the later course of treatment, the activator must be used. Contax itself, however, must be light-cured, even if the Activator is used.

INDICATION:

Adhesive system for dental composites, compomers and ormocers to be used on dentine and enamel

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

Do not use the material in the case of

• allergies to components of the materials used, especially benzoyl peroxide if the activator is used, • exposed pulp, • pulpitis, • insufficient oral hygiene.

Specifications

COMPOSITION:

Contax-Primer: Water, carboxylic acid, sodium fluoride

Contax-Bond: Hydrophilic and acidic Bis-GMA-based resin matrix, catalyst

Contax-Activator: Hydrophilic and acidic Bis-GMA-based resin matrix, benzoyl peroxide

Interactions with other materials

Do not use together with substances which inhibit polymerization. This is especially valid for products which contain eugenol, such as temporary cements or filling materials

Directions For Use

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:

Make sure that the primed and/or bonded surface does not become re-contaminated.

Do not remove the oxygen inhibition layer caused by the application because this is important for the bonding process with the material applied on top. In deep cavities, material excesses can form at the margin between tooth and and matrix (“pooling effect”).

Therefore, if possible, place a matrix band only after application of the Bond.

Do not interchange lids of bottles because this can lead to a cross-contamination of the liquids.

For better differentiation, the lids are color-coded: Red = Primer; Black = Bond; White = Activator. In order to prevent premature polymerization due to ambient light, the materials must be added to the mixing palette (e.g. LuxaTray) immediately prior to application.

The Contax-Activator must be used if self- or dual-curing restoration materials are used. Use of the Contax-Activator is not necessary if light-curing restoration materials are used. Contax must be light-cured in all cases.

Light-curing units should have an output of 450 nm and should be checked regularly.

The light intensity should be a minimum of 400 mW/cm². Place the light as close as possible to the material. DMG recommends the use of a rubber dam.

RECOMMENDED USE:

1. Prepare the cavity in accordance with the general rules for adhesive procedures. Bevel the enamel edges. Protect pulp in deep cavities with suitable materials.

Note: If additional enamel etching is desired, this can be performed according to manufacturer’s instructions. Bond strength of Contax stays the same.

2. Put one drop of Contax-Primer onto the mixing pad or directly onto the single-use brush and work into the tooth structure for 20 seconds.

Note: After the application of the Contax-Primer, the surface to be treated must appear evenly moist. If this is not the case, apply Contax-Primer again. It is not necessary to blow on the Contax-Primer

3. Prepare the bond as follows: For self- or dual-curing restoration materials: Mix one drop of Contax-Bond and one drop of Contax-Activator in a hollow in the mixing pad for approximately 5 seconds. For light-curing restoration materials: Put one drop of Contax-Bond on the mixing pad or directly onto a new single-use brush. Contax-Activator is not necessary

4. Apply the bond or bond-activator mixture to the whole preparation

5. Work the bond or bond-activator mixture into the primed tooth structure for 20 seconds

6. Remove excess

7. Thin out the bond or bond-activator mixture briefly with oil-free air until the surface appears evenly moist

8. Light-cure Contax for 20 seconds

9. Apply the restoration material according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
